READ

World Teachers’ Day is on October the 5th every year. It is a very special day and every student should make a note of it in his or her diary. And then they should put it on their calendar, computer and iPhone. It celebrates some of the world’s most important and underpaid people – teachers. Without teachers, no one would learn anything. Because of this, all students should prepare a special gift to give to their favorite teacher on this day. Nothing too big, perhaps an iPod or a voucher for a spa and massage. This day has only been going since 1994. Its aim is to get people to support all teachers around the world. It also aims to promote the wonderful profession of teaching for all aspiring teachers.

According to the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Teachers' Day highlights the “vital contribution” that teachers make to education and the development of societies and nations. More than 100 countries observe this day. The teaching profession is changing rapidly. There are good things; technology means teachers have more tools to use inside and outside of the classroom. There are also bad things; in many countries, children have lost respect for teachers and so never listen to them. It is important on this day to remember that teachers are there for one reason – to educate people to give them the chance of a better future. Be nice to your teachers on World Teachers’ Day.
